New Packaging Designed to Enhance Performance and Market Competitiveness

Captain & Original – Gulf Union Foods Co. (Saudi Arabia)

When Gulf Union Foods set out to redesign the 250 ml bottles for its Captain and Original product ranges, the objective was twofold: improve performance during the hot-filling process while reinforcing the brands’ presence and appeal on shelf.

To meet these goals, the project was developed through a fully integrated end-to-end approach, encompassing every stage of the packaging innovation journey—from initial analysis and design development to engineering, validation and industrialisation.

The process began with a detailed assessment of the existing bottles, focusing on their technical limitations and production challenges. Based on these insights, new packaging concepts were developed to improve resistance to the thermal stresses generated during hot filling, while preserving and enhancing the distinctive visual identity of both brands.

Using highly realistic 3D renderings and mock-ups, the Gulf Union team was able to evaluate alternative design solutions quickly and effectively, enabling faster decision-making and greater confidence throughout the development process.

Following concept approval, the project progressed seamlessly into industrialisation. This phase included mould development, technical validation, in-factory testing and dedicated support during the blow-moulding process. By maintaining continuity from concept to production, the project ensured full alignment between design intent and manufacturing execution, reducing lead times, mitigating risks and simplifying project management.

The Result

The outcome is a new generation of bottles optimised for production efficiency, delivering enhanced performance during the hot-filling process while strengthening the market positioning of the Captain and Original brands.

With the delivery of two complete sets of industrial moulds, Gulf Union received a fully validated, production-ready solution designed to support both operational performance and brand growth.

“The collaboration between Gentlebrand and Competek enabled us to address both technical and branding aspects simultaneously. The result is a bottle better suited to production requirements, without compromising the product’s visual identity, and with a development process managed seamlessly right through to the start of production.” – Gulf Union Team

From strategy to production-ready packaging, a single integrated process that transforms packaging into a tangible business asset.
