Professional equality between women and men has been declared a major national cause of the five-year term by the President of the French Republic and by the Government.

Legislative measures have been adopted in the Law for the freedom to choose one's professional future promulgated on September 5, 2018 in order to take concrete action against wage inequality.

This law obliges companies to achieve results through the calculation and publication of a Gender Equality Index.

This index is based on 5 regulatory indicators for companies with more than 250 employees, and 4 indicators for companies with between 50 and 250 employees:

  • Wage gap between women and men.
  • Percentage of women and men who have been raised outside promotion.
  • Percentage of women and men promoted.
  • Salary increase for women on their return from maternity leave
  • Number of women in the 10 highest earners.

In the event of an overall score below 75 points, the company will have 3 years to take the necessary corrective measures, in particular through negotiations on professional equality.

In the event of an overall score between 75 and 84 points, the company will be required to set and publish progress targets for each of the index's indicators.

If the number of calculable points is less than 65/100, then the index is said to be "incalculable". Nevertheless, the calculable indicators must be published.

The index is incalculable for the company Competek in 2024.
